JOB SUMMARY
The Transportation Routing Coordinator 2 assists in leading, designing, optimizing, and continuous improvement of student transportation routing and scheduling systems. This role is responsible for ensuring operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and service excellence through data-driven decision-making and strategic planning.
In alignment with HIDS’s commitment to operation excellence and student access, the Transportation Routing Coordinator 2 oversees routing operations, mentors routing staff, and collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders to align transportation services with district goals. The position requires advanced analysis of routing data, proactive problem-solving, and a strong commitment to safety, equity, and a student-first approach. Additionally, the role ensures the integrity of regulatory reporting and system data while driving process improvements that enhance transparency, accountability, and service delivery.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordinate and assist with the planning, development, and continuous optimization of transportation routing systems, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance with state and district regulations.
2. Assist in validating complex routing scenarios, including special education transportation, hazardous conditions, and large-scale operational adjustments.
3. Analyze transportation data, performance metrics, and routing trends to identify opportunities for cost savings, improved service delivery, and effective resource allocation.
5. Coach, and develop routing staff by providing ongoing training, clear expectations, and performance feedback; support workforce planning and succession development initiatives.
7. Support field audits and operational assessments to verify route accuracy, safety standards, and service quality; develop and implement corrective action plans as needed.
9. Lead and manage transportation-related projects such as routing software implementations, bell time adjustments, and large-scale route redesigns, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
10. Monitor project progress by tracking milestones, deliverables, and risks; proactively address barriers and provide regular status updates to senior leadership.

12. Utilize GPS systems, routing software, and data analytics tools to monitor real-time operations, validate route efficiency, and support data-driven decision-making.
13. Serve as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including district staff, school administrators, parents, and local agencies, ensuring clear and professional communication.
10. Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer service excellence, maintaining a strong student-focused approach.
12. Perform other job-related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall effectiveness and reliability of HISD’s transportation services in support of students and schools.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree, required

WORK EXPERIENCE
7 to 10 years working with transportation
Comprehensive knowledge of routing and scheduling school buses, transit logistics, routing software systems, systems control concepts and techniques, documentation procedures, strategic planning, employee training and supervision, and organizational development and improvement.
The ability to provide high level, complex analysis of demographic and transportation data for budgeting and planning is also required.
SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
SAP, Microsoft Office, Routing and GPS Software (ex. Edulog, EZ Routing, Samsara)
Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier)
Class B CDL, plus School Bus & Passenger endorsements, strongly preferred
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees but does not have a formal supervisory responsibility. Leading and directing is restricted to moonitoring work and providing guidance on escalanted issues. Most of work time is spent performaning man of the same duties they are leading.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment, which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
• Valid Texas driver’s license with applicable insurance coverage.
