JOB SUMMARY
The Specialist 2 plays a crucial role in supporting and executing various tasks and projects within the department. This position requires a combination of technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members. The Specialist 2 will contribute to the successful implementation of initiatives and help ensure the smooth operation of departmental activities.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist in the execution of specific IT tasks and projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality standards.
2. Collect and analyze data, prepare reports, and present findings to relevant stakeholders.
3. Conduct research and gather information on assigned topics to support decision-making processes.
4. Provide support in developing and implementing processes and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to facilitate communication and coordination among team members.
6. Support the preparation and delivery of presentations, training materials, and other communication materials.
7. Maintain accurate and organized documentation, records, and files.
8. Assist in monitoring project progress, identifying potential issues, and proposing solutions.
9. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements relevant to the assigned area.

10. Assist in managing and maintaining relevant software applications, tools, and databases.
11. Contribute to the development and improvement of departmental workflows and standard operating procedures.
12. Provide general administrative support, including scheduling meetings, preparing meeting agendas, and taking minutes.
13. Collaborate with team members to ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
14. Participate in professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills.
15. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED; additional certifications or relevant training a plus
WORK EXPERIENCE
Previous experience in a related role or field is preferred
SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
Software
Child Nutrition software (PrimeroEdge, etc.) preferred
Microsoft Office
Certifications/Licensure
Certification in Child Nutrition (School Nutrition Association or Texas Association of School Nutrition) preferred.
ServSafe Certification and/or City of Houston Food Handler Certification recommended.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice, and training to staff.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.
BUDGET AUTHORITY
No budget development activity is required.
PROBLEM SOLVING
Decisions are made on routine matters affecting few individuals and usually within the confines of the job's own department. Specific job activities and results are typically reviewed closely. There are limited requirements for developing new ideas or changes in methods, procedures, or services.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS
Follow rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to HISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made, would result in minor expense for correction.
COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS
Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions, and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor, and coworkers in own and other departments.
CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
Follows through with customer inquiries, requests, and complaints. Forwards difficult and non-routine inquiries or requests to appropriate level for resolution.
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
