JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Manager of Building Services and Custodial Support is responsible for the oversight and operational management of division-wide custodial services and minor maintenance/repairs for campuses and administrative facilities. This role ensures clean, safe, and functional environments conducive to learning and aligned with district standards and compliance requirements.
This position is an essential worker position.
 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Provides leadership and supervision to custodial and building services teams across the division.
2.    Assists with the development, implementation, and monitoring of operational procedures and quality standards for custodial services and minor building repairs.
3.    Supports and evaluates site-level building services managers and ensures adherence to district policies and service level expectations.
4.    Assists with the development and implementation of preventive maintenance schedules for minor repair needs and ensure timely response to service requests.
 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

5.    Establishes and implements custodial service protocols, including cleaning schedules, staffing plans, and training programs.  
6.    Ensures that all facilities are cleaned and maintained to meet health, safety, and environmental standards.  
7.    Monitors custodial supply usage and assists the building services managers with inventory in alignment with budget and procurement policies.
8.    Assists in developing and managing the annual budget for custodial operations and minor maintenance services.  
9.    Serves as liaison between the department of operations and school administrators regarding custodial and minor repair issues.
10.    Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.
 

EDUCATION

Some college, preferred

SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

SAP, Microsoft Office, Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier), Hand tools (e.g.,
hammer, shovel, screwdriver), Power tools (e.g., radial saw, reciprocating saw, drill, pneumatic
hammer), Vehicles (e.g., automobile, truck, tractor, forklift), Management Training
 

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages (Directly). Regularly manages two or more employees in at least a single department.
Includes large functional departments. Allocates resources according to priorities and serves as
primary decision maker regarding hiring, performance and budget recommendations.
 

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.
 

BUDGET AUTHORITY

No budget development activity is required.

Decisions are made with greater freedom and discretion, including recommendations that are subject to approval on matters that may affect multiple departments across HISD. Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods/procedures/services and generate new ideas.

May also review decisions made by other individuals on more routine matters.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Collaborate and solve problems - works with others to resolve problems, clarify or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.

Regularly assesses and diffuses complex, and escalated customer issues. Takes personal responsibility and accountability for solving systemic customer service problems. Regularly explores alternative and creative solutions to meeting the needs of the customer within HISD's policies and guidelines.
