JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Architect – Enterprise Platform and Security Solutions provides technical leadership over Houston ISD’s enterprise identity, access, provisioning, and integration platforms. This role designs secure, scalable solutions that connect Oracle Fusion, Microsoft 365, SIS, and other business-critical systems. The Senior Architect is responsible for establishing IAM policies, designing middleware frameworks, and advancing automation for provisioning and deprovisioning of users across the district. This position plays a key role in platform security, architecture, and modernization.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Lead design and implementation of secure, scalable enterprise identity and access management (IAM) architecture.
2.    Oversee integration between cloud and legacy systems (Oracle Fusion, Microsoft, SIS, etc.).
3.    Serve as a technical lead for provisioning automation and access policy enforcement.
4.    Establish architectural patterns for secure middleware and data transfer pipelines.
5    Collaborate with the cybersecurity team to ensure platforms meet district security requirements.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

6.    Support incident response, access audits, and forensic analysis when needed.
7.    Provide architectural oversight for authentication systems (SSO, MFA, conditional access).
8.    Document enterprise platform standards and ensure alignment with vendor capabilities.
9.    Mentor platform engineers and coordinate with other architects on enterprise-wide design.
10.    Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or engineering required. Master’s preferred.    

WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 7 years of experience in enterprise IT architecture or security-focused platform design. Experience with IAM, provisioning, and integration tools is required.

SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

•    In-depth knowledge of identity lifecycle management and directory services
•    Experience with SAML, OAuth, LDAP, Active Directory, and SCIM provisioning
•    Strong skills in designing secure APIs and middleware
•    Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Oracle Identity Cloud Service, or similar platforms
•    Preferred certifications: CISSP, Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator, or equivalent    

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Leads enterprise-level architecture initiatives and mentors technical staff in IAM and platform engineering.

Designs complex integrations and provisioning strategies with wide-reaching impact. Exercises high-level judgment and decision-making authority.

Advises on tool selection, licensing, and infrastructure investments related to enterprise platform operations.

Resolves high-impact issues involving access, identity compromise, or system interoperability.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS

Affects access to all district systems. Errors could result in system downtime, security breaches, or data exposure.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Collaborates across IT, security, HR, and instructional tech to ensure secure, seamless user experiences.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

Supports districtwide users by ensuring reliable and secure access to enterprise platforms.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Office or hybrid environment. May require extended hours for security events or system upgrades. Must maintain professional certifications and access credentials.
