JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, ensures police officers and staff perform their duties in accordance with state and federal laws, as well as departmental and district policies.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Trains officers to perform duties in accordance with local, state, and federal laws as well as departmental and district policy.
- Monitors the police radio and responds to calls for service in a timely manner. Ensures that officers are responding to calls and disposing of them in an appropriate and timely manner. Facilitates the proper distribution of resources to ensure that manpower is assigned efficiently and effectively.
- Conducts security assessments of schools and district facilities. Controls emergency situations and begins incident command procedures.
- Works closely with area law enforcement and ensures that all proper protocols are followed. Establishes and develops memorandums of understanding with other agencies that will provide for the access and utilization of resources in the event of an emergency both man made or natural.
- Assigns personnel to investigate and follow up on all cases involving incidents of criminal and noncriminal activity on and around HISD property. Prepares and submits statistical data and provides it to the proper HISD personnel with the appropriate recommendations. Develops and implements programs targeted at providing a safer and more secure environment.

EDUCATION
High School Diploma or equivalent
WORK EXPERIENCE
3 years minimum
SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
TCOLE Intermediate Peace Officer Certification required
Must be able to qualify with primary handgun and rifle
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Regularly supervises and manages subordinate personnel in order to achieve departmental goals and objectives in accordance with District and Departmental guidlelines.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources.
BUDGET AUTHORITY
Compiles and organizes data and figures for senior staff as required.

Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

Decisions have moderate impact on the department or facilities. Errors are usually discovered in succeeding operations where most of the work is verified or checked and is normally confined to a single department or phase of the organizational activities resulting in brief inconvenience.

Work involves regular exposure to hazardous substances, potentially dangerous situations, and unpleasant work conditions such as adverse weather conditions or extreme risk of accidental or ill health.
Ability to carry and/or lift 45 pounds or more.
