JOB SUMMARY

Manages the operation of the printing, copying, bindery, and mailing production areas; assigns work, schedules and evaluates staff, and schedules equipment maintenance and emergency repairs; monitors time and performance standards, waste and spoilage levels, and maintains records necessary to control costs and production schedules.  Collaborates with manager and other team leaders on daily assignments to maintain and monitor production schedule and meet deadlines.
 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Organizes, plans, and schedules project assignments throughout the production floor with employees. Analyzes job specifications and determines the most efficient and effective equipment for the job.
2.    Ensures the quality of production of each product that is produced and coordinates all supporting financial documentation for billing purposes.
3.    Produces work using offset and digital presses, digital copier-printerss, bindery and mailing equipment to assure on-time production of high-quality finished products.
 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

4.    Operates and develops the preventative maintenance program for all leased and owned equipment and machinery such as,  bindery equipment, duplicators, digital and offset presses, wide-format digital printers and commercial mail equipment (tabbers inserter, meter equipment, mail software).
5.    Coordinates and monitors production input into the printing management system shop floor. Makes sure all production staff is properly using the printing management system software. Reads and corrects daily shop floor productivity reports to ensure accurate information is in the printing management system.
6.    Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
 

EDUCATION

Vocational / Technical / Business School

SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and Adobe Acrobat
Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier), Hand tools (e.g., hammer, shovel, screwdriver), Vehicles (e.g., automobile, truck, tractor, forklift, clamp trucks and pallet jacks)
 

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees, but does not have formal supervisory responsibility. Leading and directing typically involves monitoring work and providing guidance on escalated issues. Most of work time is spent performing many of same duties they are leading.
 

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.
 

BUDGET AUTHORITY

No budget development activity is required.
 

PROBLEM SOLVING

Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.
 

IMPACT OF DECISIONS

Follows rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to HISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made, would result in minor expense for correction.
 

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Basic communication with internal teams and vendors regarding deadlines, uptime and instructions.  Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and co-workers in own department.
 

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

Takes routine or required customer actions to meet customer needs. Responds promptly and accurately to customer complaints, inquiries and requests for information and coordinates appropriate follow-up. May handle escalated issues passed on from coworkers or subordinates.
 

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions.
Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
