POSITION SUMMARY
Provides music therapy services for students with disabilities receiving special education services in HISD. Plans and provides music therapy services to reinforce and strengthen targeted skills. Collaborates with parents, community agencies, and other professionals in the provision of music therapy to students.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
- Plans and provides music therapy services to reinforce and strengthen skills as specified on the individualized education program (IEP) of students with disabilities.
- Evaluates students to determine the need or continued need for music therapy services and supports.
- Tracks individual progress on individualized and or group music therapy goals and objectives.
- Develop strategies and techniques targeting student IEP goals and objectives.
- Designs, constructs, modifies, and provides students with therapy to promote maximum independence.
- Develops, implements, and monitors training for staff on issues related to providing music therapy services.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES CONTINUED
- Organizes and implements small group/large group professional development sessions and on-site assistance for general and special education personnel as it relates to music therapy services for students with disabilities.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Microsoft Office and Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier)
Music Therapy Board Certification – (MT-BC)
Knowledge of procedures, activities, and equipment used in music therapy
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy
Experience
1 to 3 years as a music therapist

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.
BUDGET AUTHORITY
No budget development activity is required.
PROBLEM SOLVING
Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

Decisions have minor, small and possibly incremental impact on the department or facility. Errors are usually discovered in succeeding operations where most of the work is verified or checked and is normally confined to a single department or phase of the organizational activities resulting in brief inconvenience.

Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other departments.

Takes routine or required customer actions to meet customer needs. Responds promptly and accurately to customer complaints, inquiries, and requests for information and coordinates appropriate follow-up. May handle escalated issues passed on from coworkers or subordinates.
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions.
Work involves moderate carrying / lifting: physically transporting, raising items from a lower to a higher position, or moving objects horizontally weighing 15 to 44 pounds from one location to another.
