POSITION SUMMARY

Provides leadership in planning, coordinating, and facilitating a school-based framework of support and intervention for high school students at risk of dropping out or failing to graduate with their cohorts, and for previous high school dropouts.

  • To motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge commensurate with their individual abilities

In this job the incumbent must be able to use good judgment in making decisions, and must maintain professional relationships with students, parents, one’s peers and supervising staff members.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

  •  Responsible for registering, enrolling, withdrawing students. Participate in training and become proficient in evaluating transcripts and graduation requirements of incoming students.
  •  Develop and provide instructional plans for recovering lost credits.
  •  Select and monitor teachers of record.
  •  Responsible for online learning and APEX coordination.
  •  Work with counselors and teachers to provide instructional intervention and other strategies that can prevent initial failures.
  •  Identify other support services that can assist the student. Act as a liaison between student and services.
  •  Take attendance of students according to the TEA OFSDP guidelines. Maintain an auditable record of pupil attendance and behavior.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES CONTINUED

  •  Provide on-going emotional support and personal professional contact.
  •  Communicate effectively with teachers, staff and administrators to advocate for students.
  • Collect and submit information to the Academic Services department as necessary or as requested.
  • Assist students in using hard copies and on-line programs to prepare for appropriate state and district exams.
  • Act as testing coordinator for assigned site.
  • Establish, maintain, and support standards of personal conduct and discipline in accordance with the current discipline policy approved by the Board of Education up to level IV of the Code of Student Conduct.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and materials assigned and recommend replacement and maintenance as required.
  • Assume overall responsibility for program implementation and results.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including special assignments or emergency situations as determined by the office of Academic Services.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
The Graduation Coach works under the immediate direction of the campus administrator. Provides professional/technical advice to certificated members of the Lab. May plan and supervise the work of assistants in the school.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.

Compiles and organizes data and figures.

Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions.
Ability to carry and/or lift up to 15 to 44 pounds.
