JOB SUMMARY: The (ACP) Candidate is an individual enrolled in HISD’s Texas-approved Alternative Certification Program who is actively working toward obtaining a Texas Standard Teaching Certificate. The candidate may serve in an instructional classroom role or in a non-instructional assignment, based on district needs and eligibility. The ACP Candidate is expected to remain compliant with all certification program requirements, timelines, and applicable state and district standards while demonstrating professionalism and commitment to student success.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES:
1. Must pass required content exams
2. Complete 300 hours of coursework
3. Complete 50 field-based hours
4. Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
5. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
6. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual differences.
7. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
8. Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
9. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to the students.
10. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
11. Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
12. Assess the accomplishments of the students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
13. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior. Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
14. Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
15. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
16. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develop a reasonable rule of classroom behavior. Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
17. Make provisions for being available to the students and to the parents for education-related purposes when required.
18. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluate their job performance.
19. Maintain and improve professional competence.
20. Participate in district staff development.
EDUCATION:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
