JOB SUMMARY
This position is primarily responsible for the overall vision, strategy, and direction of advanced academics, including college readiness testing. AP/IB/PAP/world languages programming, dual credit, and leading related district-wide strategic initiatives. This person serves as a strategic leader within the CCMR division. They are responsible for leading a team to design resources, professional learning, and programming to ensure strong achievement within CCMR.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Design the vision and strategy of the AP, PreAP, IB, PTECH and Early College, College Readiness, College Readiness Curriculum, Miles Ahead Scholars, and Access programs. Ensure these programs are aligned with district goals and are meeting the needs of students and educators.
2. Ensure that all advanced academics teachers and administrators have access to high-quality curricular materials, including supporting curriculum adoption, creation and vetting;
3. Supervises and sets the vision for the advanced academics department; collaborates with senior leaders within the CCMR division to ensure alignment and cohesion; manages district initiatives pertaining to advanced academics, such as associate degree programs
4. In partnership with DC, create strategy for school support, including design of professional learning resources, targeted school support and continuous progress monitoring of CCMR data pertaining to advanced academics
5. Collaborate with district administrators, principals, and teachers to ensure clarity, aligned strategy, and impact of all advanced academics strategic initiatives
6. Build strong partnerships with external organizations, educational 9 institutions, and experts in the field to ensure strength of advanced academics programming
7. Engage with parents, community members, and other stakeholders to foster support and involvement in advanced academics initiatives.
8. Create, implement, and continually review effectiveness of strategy around college readiness testing, programming, and student support.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Level 4 -Senior Management. Manages a department or multiple major disciplines, often through subordinate management. Regularly manages staff in the completion of large-scale projects or a very closely related set of projects/initiatives often spanning multiple disciplines. Receives strategies and broad departmental objectives from senior leadership; establishes operational objectives and work plans; delegates assignments to subordinate management and staff. Allocates resources according to priorities and serves as the primary decision maker regarding hiring, performance, and budget.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
-Work is non-standardized and widely varied, involving many complex and significant variables including significant time spent planning, evaluating complex solutions and issues, and negotiating outcomes. Strong analytic ability and inductive thinking are frequently required to devise new approaches to situations where previously accepted solutions have proven inadequate. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the division. Supervision received typically consists of providing periodic coaching, advice, and feedback.

-No budget development activity is required.

-Decisions are made with greater freedom and discretion, including recommendations that are subject to approval on matters that may affect multiple departments across HISD. Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods/procedures/services and generate new ideas. May also review decisions made by other individuals on more routine matters.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS
-Decisions have moderate impact to the facility/department or division, causing increased satisfaction or dissatisfaction; producing efficiencies or delays; promoting or inhibiting personal intellectual or professional development; and/or contributing to financial gain or expense. Errors may be serious, usually not subject to direct verification or check, causing losses such as improper cost calculations, overpayment or improper utilization of labor, materials, or equipment. -Collaborate and solve problems - work with others to resolve problems, clarify, or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.

-Leads others in the resolution of highly sensitive and confidential issues on behalf of the department. Acts as a trusted advisor and becomes involved in the customer's decision-making process including presenting alternatives and information and applying persuasion and negotiation skills in the resolution of problems. Monitors customer service standards.
