JOB SUMMARY
Provides support in the areas of dropout prevention, intervention, social services, and other outreach efforts to students and their families. Responsible for locating and providing information on available resources and other options in an effort to increase student attendance and achievement.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees case management for students identified as at-risk of dropping out of school. Develops and implements assistance plans in accordance with individual student needs, in addition to formulating a comprehensive plan for assistance. Coordinates social services and other resources for students and their families.
- Identifies campus and district options to address individual student needs. Advises students, parents and campus committees on prevention, intervention, and engagement measures concerning students at-risk of dropping out. Provides counsel to committees on leaver coding and interventions.
- Assists campuses in developing strategic community and agency partnerships and connections to improve student engagement and four-year completion.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED
- Advises campus administration on policy, resources, systems, structures, and best practices to address student engagement issues and prevent dropout. Advises campus committees in the analysis of data relating to at-risk students and dropouts.
- Compiles and tabulates dropout/prevention investigation results for monthly reporting.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work and tasks are often straightforward, routine, structured and guided by established policies and procedures. Little, if any, independent judgment is required, outside of making basic choices in the selection and application of established methods. The job receives frequent, ongoing supervision.
BUDGET AUTHORITY
No budget development activity is required.
PROBLEM SOLVING
Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS
Follows rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to HISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made, would result in minor expense for correction.
COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS
Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other departments.
CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
Follows through with customer inquiries, requests and complaints. Forwards difficult and non-routine inquiries or requests to appropriate level for resolution.
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions.
Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
