JOB SUMMARY

The Director – Enterprise Platform and Security Solutions leads the design, integration, and security of Houston ISD’s enterprise software platforms. This includes identity and access management (IAM), authentication services, middleware, and integration services that enable communication between cloud and legacy systems. The Director is responsible for ensuring security-by-design and robust platform services across ERP, HR, Student, and business-critical systems. This role oversees technical architecture, platform operations, system provisioning, and alignment with cybersecurity and compliance protocols.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Provide leadership for platform-level services such as single sign-on, provisioning, and middleware.
2.    Manage security protocols and identity access governance across all enterprise applications.
3.    Collaborate with the Chief Information Security Officer and infrastructure teams to implement layered security.
4.    Oversee enterprise integrations between Oracle Fusion, legacy SAP, and other cloud/on-prem platforms.
5    Direct system provisioning efforts, ensuring timely and secure account setup across systems.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

6.    Evaluate and implement tools to support authentication, MFA, SSO, and system-level access.
7.    Monitor and ensure platform availability, reliability, and performance standards.
8.    Lead efforts to comply with state and federal privacy and security regulations, such as FERPA and HIPAA.
9.    Manage a team responsible for core technical systems and ensure alignment with innovation and support functions.
10.    Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, or a related field required. Master’s preferred.    

WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 7 years in enterprise systems, cybersecurity, or IT infrastructure roles with at least 3 years of experience leading technical teams. Experience with identity and access management and system integrations required. K–12 or public sector experience preferred.    

SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

•    Experience managing IAM, SSO, MFA, and related security platforms
•    Familiarity with Oracle Fusion integration and platform architecture
•    Deep understanding of enterprise system connectivity and middleware
•    Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS)
•    Strong communication and technical documentation skills
•    Preferred certifications: CISSP, Azure Security Engineer, or equivalent

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Leads a team responsible for foundational platforms, system provisioning, and integration security. Sets direction for system hardening, platform stability, and secure operations.    

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Handles complex architecture and security issues across systems. Exercises independent judgment in determining risk thresholds and solution design.

BUDGET AUTHORITY

Provides input on software, licensing, and services related to platforms and security tools. Oversees team-related operational budgets.    

PROBLEM SOLVING

Solves platform-wide issues such as system access, performance bottlenecks, or vulnerabilities. Designs scalable, secure solutions across diverse platforms.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS

Impacts every user in the district through provisioning, access, and secure use of systems. Errors can result in data breaches or loss of critical functionality.    

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Engages with infrastructure, application, and security teams. Reports to executive leadership and collaborates with external vendors.    

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

Ensures smooth onboarding and access for new staff, students, and contractors. Supports system owners with secure, reliable technology environments.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Primarily office-based with some off-hours work during maintenance windows or incidents. Travel between sites as needed. Must maintain security credentials.
