JOB SUMMARY
The Director of School Choice Operations leads district strategy and implementation of the School Choice application, lottery and transfer processes, ensuring that the HISD school choice process is fair, efficient, and accurate. This role requires strong leadership, strategic planning expertise, the ability to manage teams and the ability to cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships across the district.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develop and implement a clear and comprehensive strategy for the school Choice application, lotter, and transfers.
2. Effectively support the school choice team who supports schools and families through the process.
3. Partners with principals, District leaders and families to promote awareness, transparency and improvement of the school choice process.
4. Use data to evaluate effectiveness, identify trends, and inform decisions: provide regular reports to district leadership on application data.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED
5. Coordinate team resources and activities to meet project timelines and achieve desired outcomes, while mitigating risks and conflicts that may arise.
6. Collaborate with internal and external teams as well as with the legal department to ensure that all school choice projects comply with established board and district policy and guidelines.
7. Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
1 to 3 years
Experience working with a platform. 3 years managing other employees. Experience working with senior leaders preferred.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Senior Management. Manages a department or multiple major disciplines, often through subordinate management. Regularly manages staff in the completion of large-scale projects or a very closely related set of projects/initiatives often spanning multiple disciplines. Receives strategies and broad departmental objectives from senior leadership; establishes operational objectives and work plans; delegates assignments to subordinate management and staff. Allocates resources according to priorities and serves as the primary decision maker regarding hiring, performance, and budget.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work is highly complex and broad in scope covering several departments/divisions across HISD. Policies, procedures, and precedents are created and approved by this position. Supervision received typically consists of providing periodic coaching, advice, and feedback.

Analyzes and interprets data and figures.
Decisions have considerable impact on multiple divisions or the organization causing risks or improvements to relationships, significant efficiencies, or delays in operations, and/or significant financial gains or expenses. Errors are serious and difficult to discover, normally involve decisions not subject to detailed review and will result in excessive costs and/or significant project delays.
