JOB SUMMARY
The Director – School Operations & Support leads the team responsible for supporting campus-facing student technology operations, including scheduling, attendance, grading, report cards, and year-end transitions. This role ensures HISD campuses receive timely, accurate, and user-friendly SIS support aligned to district policies and academic calendars. The Director manages the student systems help desk, oversees critical annual SIS processes, and partners with Academics, SPED, and Compliance teams to ensure operational readiness across all schools.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversee the day-to-day student information system (SIS) operations that support campuses with scheduling, grades, and attendance.
2. Manage year-end rollover, school calendar setup, and other cyclical SIS tasks that impact all 280+ campuses.
3. Lead a team of engineers and support specialists providing Tier 2 help desk support for campus SIS needs.
4. Coordinate with Academic and Special Education departments to ensure proper configuration of grading, courses, and special programs.
5 Develop communication materials and training resources for principals, counselors, registrars, and clerks.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED
6. Track campus service metrics, resolve escalated issues, and maintain documentation of system processes.
7. Partner with the SIS vendor to escalate technical issues, apply updates, and validate releases.
8. Ensure accurate attendance and grade reporting in alignment with district and TEA requirements.
9. Facilitate feedback loops from schools to improve SIS usability and policy alignment.
10. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related technical field required. Master’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and at least seven (7) years of relevant experience.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 7 years working with SIS systems in a K–12 environment. Experience supporting campuses, registrars, or counselors in a central office or districtwide capacity required.
SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
• Strong knowledge of SIS systems (e.g., PowerSchool, Infinite Campus)
• Familiarity with state reporting rules for attendance and grades
• Project management and team leadership skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Understanding of school calendars, course structures, and gradebook systems
• Ability to manage system updates, training materials, and cross-functional communications
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises a team of engineers and school support specialists. Leads planning, prioritization, and escalation processes related to SIS operations.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Resolves complex campus-level SIS issues. Makes policy-aligned decisions in collaboration with compliance, academic, and vendor teams.
BUDGET AUTHORITY
Advice on system enhancements, training resources, and vendor contracts. May oversee operational budgets for SIS support tools.
PROBLEM SOLVING
Troubleshoots systemwide and campus-specific SIS issues. Aligns district policy needs with system functionality and usability.

Impacts daily operations in schools, including grading, attendance, and student placement. Errors may affect state reporting or academic records.
COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS
Frequent contact with school leaders, registrars, counselors, and vendors. Presents updates to academic departments and IT leadership.
CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
Serves as a primary contact for campus SIS users. Ensures consistent, clear support that enables instructional operations to run smoothly.
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Office work environment. May require extended hours during integration launches, SIS transitions, or academic year rollovers, hybrid setting available.
