JOB SUMMARY
The Director – Enterprise Center of Excellence provides strategic and operational leadership for Houston ISD’s enterprise ERP systems, including Finance, Budgeting, Procurement, Payroll, and HR. This role oversees system configuration, end-user support, business process optimization, and functional governance. The Director manages a team of engineers and analysts supporting SAP (legacy) and Oracle Fusion (future) platforms and ensures consistent, efficient service delivery across central office departments and schools. This role plays a key part in HISD’s modernization from an on-premise SAP environment to Oracle Fusion Cloud.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversee the daily operations and support of core ERP modules including HR, Payroll, Finance, Procurement, and Warehousing.
2. Lead business process improvement and functional configuration efforts across enterprise systems.
3. Supervise a team of engineers and analysts who provide user support, testing, and documentation.
4. Manage system issue resolution, testing, and enhancements during and after the transition to Oracle Fusion Cloud.
5 Partner with departments and IT leadership to align ERP functions with business needs and strategic goals.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED
6. Collaborate with the Enterprise Strategic Data Intelligence team to ensure accurate, timely reporting and data integration.
7. Provide technical direction during the cloud transition, ensuring continuity of service and user adoption.
8. Serve as liaison between end users, IT, and vendors for ERP-related matters.
9. Establish service level agreements, workflows, and performance metrics for ERP support.

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, information systems, public administration, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 7 years in ERP system management or business systems operations, including 3+ years in a leadership role. Experience with SAP and/or Oracle Fusion Cloud is required. Experience in K-12, higher ed, or public sector preferred.
SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
• Expertise in ERP functional modules (Finance, HR, Payroll, Procurement)
• Experience leading system support and configuration teams
• Familiarity with ITIL or similar support frameworks
• Strong skills in process mapping, end-user support, and training
• Knowledge of SAP ECC and/or Oracle Fusion Cloud modules
• Excellent stakeholder communication and documentation skills
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages a team of senior and mid-level engineers. Directs day-to-day support operations and strategic functional initiatives. Recommends process improvements, staffing, and priorities for the Center of Excellence.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work is non-standardized, requiring problem-solving and adaptation to evolving systems. Judgment is required to align business needs with technical constraints, especially during system transitions.
BUDGET AUTHORITY
Advises on and manages operating budgets related to ERP support and systems maintenance. Participate in software and vendor evaluations
PROBLEM SOLVING
Solves cross-functional support issues and leads resolution of system incidents and enhancements. Recommends long-term support structures and optimization strategies.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS
Decisions affect the continuity of payroll, finance, HR, and procurement services across the district. Inaccurate system configurations or delays can result in payment, compliance, or reporting issues.
COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS
Frequent interaction with department leaders, Finance, HR, and IT. Works closely with vendor support and internal teams. Prepares updates for executive audiences.
CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
Serves as the ERP functional lead for business users. Advocates for process efficiency and user enablement. Ensures a customer-centric support approach.
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office environment with some extended hours during system upgrades or cutovers. Must be able to travel between district sites as needed.
