JOB SUMMARY

Sets the vision, plans, organizes, and develops systemic professional learning changes in collaboration with other central office departments and district campuses. Provide oversight in planning, implementing, and supporting campus leaders and teachers in curriculum use through training, professional development, and job-embedded supports to improve teacher performance and student outcomes. Lead in all efforts to ensure all curriculum courses have quality grade level content fully developed to support teaching the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Collaborates with upper management to establish policies and guidelines around the development, implementation, support, and maintenance of the district’s curriculum and instruction. This position collaborates with campus upper management, the district professional development office and other academics teams to support the instructional vision

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 Listed in order of most importance

  • Direct curriculum professional development to meet teachers, school leaders, and district staff needs.  
  • Direct district-wide professional development curriculum and instructional planning, review, articulation, development and evaluation.  
  • Direct curriculum training and to campus leadership and teachers to support successful curriculum implementation.
  • Observe classroom instruction throughout the year and provide customized curriculum training aligned to district instructional vision and best practices for curriculum implementation. 
  • Collaborate with school based instructional leadership to plan strategically for campus curriculum support needs and identify trends across the district.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

  • Supervises and directs the curriculum and instruction staff in designing, implementing and maintaining a quality instructional improvement program recognizing the importance of providing support for campus programs and activities  
  • Analyze campus level student performance data on curriculum-embedded assessments to identify and respond to trends to improve curriculum training offerings. 
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing service-oriented team dedicated to ensuring all students receive grade level content and high quality instruction every day; ensure teams and individuals have clearly defined goals, develop systems to track performance and regularly improve program delivery based on data and the needs of our customers (teachers, leaders, and support staff).  
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree. Master's Degree Preferred. Texas teacher certification.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum 7+ years’ experience

SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

Texas teacher certification. 
Working Knowledge of curriculum. 
Skilled in curriculum technology programs and platforms (PK-12). 
Experience in development of curriculum content and assessments. 
Experience in creating quality, grade-level curriculum to support teaching PK-12 Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Directs two or more levels of management in the development, deployment and ongoing management of key initiatives covering multiple major disciplines with direct accountability for results in terms of effectiveness, costs, methods, and employees. Establishes operational objectives and assignments for multiple disciplines/functional areas and possibly departments. Evaluates recommendations of others, deciding on course of action in ambiguous situations, and oversees the deployment of innovative solutions. Collaborates with senior leadership to develop strategies and broad departmental objectives; establishes methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs and people in the achievement of strategic objectives

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work is non-standardized and widely varied, involving many complex and significant variables including significant time spent planning, evaluating complex solutions and issues, and negotiating outcomes. Strong analytic ability and inductive thinking are frequently required to devise new approaches to situations where previously accepted solutions have proven inadequate. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the division. Supervision received typically consists of providing periodic coaching, advice and feedback.

Participates in a group plan and/or budget development.

PROBLEM SOLVING

Decisions are made with greater freedom and discretion, including recommendations that are subject to approval on matters that may affect multiple departments across HISD. Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods/procedures/services and generate new ideas.  May also review decisions made by other individuals on more routine matters.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS

Decisions have moderate impact to the facility/department or division, causing increased satisfaction or dissatisfaction; producing efficiencies or delays; promoting or inhibiting personal intellectual or professional development; and/or contributing to financial gain or expense. Errors may be serious, usually not subject to direct verification or check, causing losses such as improper cost calculations, overpayment or improper utilization of labor, materials or equipment. Effect usually confined to the organization itself and is short term.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Negotiate and influence - interprets department strategies and services, resolves conflicts, influences outcomes on matters of significance for the division, conducts final negotiations and coordinates approvals/decision making below the executive level. Interactions are typically with customers and Top Management.

Regularly assesses and diffuses complex, and escalated customer issues. Takes personal responsibility and accountability for solving systemic customer service problems. Regularly explores alternative and creative solutions to meeting the needs of the customer within HISD's policies and guidelines.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
