JOB SUMMARY

This position manages a team that develops HISD NES (New Education System) curriculum in Career &
Technical Educations with a specific emphasis on writing teacher facing curriculum, including slide decks
with teacher guide for implementation, Demonstration of Learning (DOL), student activities and
differentiated assignments aligned to the daily objective. They are responsible for ensuring alignment to
the future of work and defining excellent CTE curriculum for their team.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.        NES Curriculum Development: Lead the design and creation of curriculum for assigned content area(s) and grade level band(s), ensuring alignment with NES model and Houston ISD's educational objectives. This includes slides, student activities, assessments, and differentiated assignments.
2.        Curriculum Evaluation: Evaluate curriculum through a sensitivity lens to ensure grade-level appropriateness and cultural relevance. Flag and correct promptly incorrect slides, images and/or materials.
3.        Scheduling and Facilitation of Brain Trusts (PLC): Lead and facilitate in collaborative brain trust sessions to gather insights, share expertise, and foster innovation in curriculum design and instructional strategies to ensure alignment, correctness, and clarity of each lesson document.

4.        TEKS-Driven Professional Development: Attend and provide professional development sessions focused on internalizing state standards, future of industry, and alignment to NES model for assigned content area(s) and grade level band(s).
5.        Organization of Team Responsibilities: Oversees and delivers weekly tasks to Curriculum Writers 1 to equitable distribute work and ensure high-quality completed documents are prepared on time. Works to create systems to monitor deliverables timeliness and accuracy.
6.        Partner with GTE leadership to ensure industry-aligned skills are embedded into all curriculum.
7.        Other duties as assigned.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Level 3-Manages. Accomplishes the majority of work objectives through the management of direct reports. Provides day-to-day directions to staff; may become directly involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems. Responsible for assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring application of policies and procedures. Receives assignments in the form of objectives, with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides input to hiring, performance and budget.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

-Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.

BUDGET AUTHORITY

-No budget development activity is required. 

PROBLEM SOLVING

-Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS

-Decisions have minor, small and possibly incremental impact on the department or facility. Errors are usually discovered in succeeding operations where most of the work is verified or checked and is normally confined to a single department or phase of the organizational activities resulting in brief inconvenience.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

-Collaborate and solve problems - work with others to resolve problems, clarify, or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.

-Takes routine or required customer actions to meet customer needs. Responds promptly and accurately to customer complaints, inquiries and requests for information and coordinates appropriate follow-up. May handle escalated issues passed on from coworkers or subordinates.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

-Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
