JOB SUMMARY
Designs and develops specially designed science and social studies curriculum for students in self-contained special education classrooms. Ensures alignment to standards while prioritizing accessibility through scaffolded, individualized supports that promote student understanding, engagement, and independence. Partners with key stakeholders to support effective implementation and continuous improvement of instructional practices.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Designs and develop specially designed science and social studies curriculum for self-contained SPED classrooms, including modified content, scaffolded lessons, and hands-on or experiential learning supports
2. Creates instructional materials aligned to IEP goals, alternate standards, and differentiated pathways across science and social studies content
3. Develops job-embedded professional learning to support teachers in implementing specialized instructional strategies in science and social studies
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED
4. Evaluates curriculum for accessibility, engagement, and effectiveness for students with diverse cognitive and learning needs
5. Collaborates with SPED specialists, content experts, and instructional teams to ensure alignment and appropriateness of materials
6. Uses student performance data and feedback to continuously refine curriculum and instructional supports
EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
At least 3 years experience in special education or science/social studies instruction, preferably in self-contained settings
SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Level 1-No supervisory responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice, and training to staff.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing directions on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

No budget development activity is required.

Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.
