JOB SUMMARY

The Nutrition Services Special Events & Promotions Cross-functional Team Member (CTM) is responsible for managing the Special Events & Promotions team within Nutrition Services. The CTM develops, designs, implements, and evaluates the planning, organization, and activities necessary to produce special events and promotions for Nutrition Services.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops, plans, organizes, and evaluates special projects and events district wide. 
  • Provides direction to departmental personnel, committees, and consultants to construct and 
  • complete special events and projects. 
  • Develops a comprehensive understanding of the Office of Nutrition Services strategic objectives 
  • and collaborates with the team to align project goals with the overall vision. 
  • Defines project scopes, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders and senior 
  • management. 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

  • Develops and implements project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation, to 
  • ensure successful execution. 
  • Manages and coordinates resources within the team to ensure the timely completion of projects 
  • and achievement of desired outcomes. 
  • Monitors project budgets and expenses, ensuring effective utilization of resources and adherence 
  • to financial guidelines. 
  • Provides training and instruction to HISD personnel regarding the implementation process of 
  • special events. 
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred 

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 5-7 years of proven experience in a similar industry or organization

SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

Microsoft Office

Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier) 

Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management both internal and external to the district.

Strong ethical standards and integrity in decision-making.

Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, planning and organizing, decision-making, communication skills, influencing and leading, adaptability. 

Professional certifications or memberships relevant to the industry or leadership role are desirable.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages. Accomplishes the majority of work objectives through the management of direct reports. Provides day-to-day direction to staff, meets schedules, and resolves problems. Responsible for assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring application of policies and procedures. Required to meet departmental goals. Provides input to hiring, performance, and budget.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgement is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department and/or division. Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

BUDGET AUTHORITY

Participates in a group plan and/or advises on budget development. Decisions are made with greater freedom and discretion, including recommendations that are subject to approval on matters that may affect multiple departments across HISD. Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods/procedures/services and generate new ideas.

Decisions have considerable impact to multiple divisions of the organization causing risks or improvements to relationships, significant efficiencies, or delays in operations, and/or significant financial gains or expenses. Errors are serious and may be difficult to discover, and normally involve decisions not subject to detailed review and will result in excessive costs and/or significant project delays.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Collaborate and solve problems – works with others to resolve problems, clarify, or interpret complex information/ policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

Leads others in the resolution of highly sensitive and confidential issues on behalf of the department. Acts as a trusted advisor and becomes involved in the customer’s decision-making process including presenting alternatives and information and applying persuasion and negotiation skills in the resolution of problems. Monitors customer service standards.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work involves some exposure varying degrees of weather, to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions. Ability to carry and/or lift or move 45 pounds with or without assistance
