JOB SUMMARY

The Coordinator 2 – Transport Administration plays a critical role in supporting the efficient operation of the document. Manages the establishment and administration of a defined set of professional/operational service, programs, and initiatives of key significance to a major, self-contained operational component of the Transportation department. 

This position also plays a key role in cultivating a culture of professionalism, accountability, and operational excellence across the transportation team. 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.        Plans and oversee strategic, operational, and administrative programs, projects, and/or services of broad significance to Transportation within the designated functional area of focus. 
2.        Maintain project documentation, including timelines, workflows, and post-project evaluations to support continuous improvement efforts. 
3.        Assist in executing short- and long-range goals, policies, procedures, and operational plans; monitor day-to-day activities and recommend adjustments to improve efficiency and effectiveness. 
4.        Provides strategic advice and recommendations to leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of new or modified operating policies, practices, and procedures within the specified functional area of focus. 
5.        Serve as a point of contact for operational and administrative matters, offering subject matter support and ensuring consistent application of processes across teams. 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

6.        Compile, analyze, and maintain reports and data tracking systems to support operational decision-making and performance monitoring. 
7.        Coordinate and facilitate training sessions for staff on transportation procedures, systems, and compliance requirements. 
8.        Manages and/or provide day-to-day leadership to various technical, professional, and/or administrative personnel engaged in specified project activities, as appropriate to the position. 
9.        Assist with communication and coordination between internal departments, schools, and external stakeholders as needed. 
10.        Perform other job-related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of HISD’s transportation operations and student-centered service model. 

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree, required.

WORK EXPERIENCE

7 to 10 years working in school bus transportation services or district/central office of a large urban school district.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees. Directly manages and supervises Unit Leaders. 

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing directions on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

BUDGET AUTHORITY

Compiles and organizes data and figures.

Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval. Occasionally expect to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

Decisions have considerable impact on multiple divisions or the organization causing risks or improvements to relationships, significant efficiencies, or delays in operations, and/or significant financial gains or expenses. 
Errors are serious and difficult to discover, normally involve decisions not subject to detailed review and will result in excessive costs and/or significant project delays. 

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Collaborate and solve problems – works with others to resolve problems, clarify or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

Leads others in the resolution of highly sensitive and confidential issues on behalf of the department. Acts as a trusted advisor and becomes involved in the customer’s decision-making process including presenting alternatives, information, applying persuasion and negotiation skills in the resolution of problems. Monitors customer service standards. 

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment, which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.  
•    Valid Texas driver’s license with applicable insurance coverage.  
•    Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including personal computer and peripherals. 
•    Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. 
•    Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching. 
•    Ability to carry and/or lift less than 45 pounds. 
•    Environment: Prolonged or irregular hours, including some weekends; frequent districtwide travel.  
•    Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress, fast-paced.
