JOB SUMMARY

The Recruitment Coordinator plays a critical role in advancing HISD’s mission to become the first large urban district to eliminate achievement gaps and prepare students for the future workplace in alignment with the district’s transformational work and high-performance expectations, this position focuses on producing and analyzing recruitment and retention data to support strategic initiatives that attract and cultivate top-tier talent. The Recruitment Coordinator is a key partner in building a diverse and high-quality workforce that shares HISD’s values of equity, excellence, and continuous improvement—ensuring that every classroom is led by effective educators who can deliver high-quality instruction every day.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Designs and executes innovative recruiting strategies that align with HISD’s bold reform agenda and commitment to staffing schools with educators capable of driving instructional excellence and student success.
2.    Manages and grows key talent pipeline programs (e.g., Student Teaching, Alternative Certification, University Partnerships), ensuring they produce diverse, high-performing candidates aligned with the district’s strategic priorities.
3.    Collaborates with HR Talent Management, school leaders, and executive leadership to proactively identify staffing needs and build responsive recruitment solutions that support campus transformation and instructional improvement.
4.    Develops and maintains dynamic data dashboards that provide real-time insights for recruitment teams and leadership, ensuring data-driven decision-making and strategic planning.
5.    Analyzes talent pipeline trends and applicant sourcing data to identify areas for targeted outreach, strengthening recruitment efforts and increasing the district’s ability to attract high-quality candidates aligned with HISD’s strategic priorities.
6.    Evaluates hiring event effectiveness by compiling and analyzing data on attendance, applicant engagement, and hiring outcomes, providing insights to optimize future recruitment initiatives.
7.    Builds and maintains strong external partnerships with universities, preparation programs, and community organizations to position HISD as an employer of choice and a national leader in education reform.

8.    Engages in long-term candidate cultivation, utilizing lead generation techniques and CRM platforms to build sustained relationships with potential candidates who demonstrate commitment to HISD’s high expectations.
  9.    Guides and supports principals and hiring managers, ensuring they are equipped to make informed hiring decisions that align with the district’s mission, the needs of individual campuses, and the values of the New Education System (NES).
10.    Manages digital sourcing tools and platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Indeed, university job boards) to effectively market HISD opportunities and maintain a consistent, mission-aligned presence.
11.    Supports the full recruitment lifecycle, including applicant screening, interviewing, selection, and onboarding, to ensure every hire meets HISD’s expectations for professional excellence and impact.
12.    Promotes HISD’s brand and EVP through social media, advertising campaigns, and targeted community outreach, reinforcing the message that HISD is a results-driven district on a national stage.
13.    Tracks recruitment and retention metrics, ensuring alignment with district policies and supporting the district’s accountability-driven, data-informed culture.
14.    Performs other duties as assigned, contributing to the district’s comprehensive transformation and high-performance vision by supporting key talent management initiatives.
 

EDUCATION

 

 Bachelor's Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

At least 5 years working in the district/central office of a large urban school district.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees but does not have formal supervisory responsibility. Leading and directing is restricted to monitoring work and providing guidance on escalated issues. Most of work time is spent performing many of the same duties they are leading.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

Compiles and organizes data and figures.

Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Collaborate and solve problems – works with others to resolve problems, clarify or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

Leads others in the resolution of highly sensitive and confidential issues on behalf of the department. Acts as a trusted advisor and becomes involved in the customer's decision-making process including presenting alternatives and information and applying persuasion and negotiation skills in the resolution of problems.

Monitors customer service standards.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment, which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.

  • Valid Texas driver’s license with applicable insurance coverage.
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including personal computer and peripherals
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
