JOB SUMMARY

The Cross-Functional Team Member is an integral part of the curriculum department. The primary role of this position will be to collaborate with executive leadership, directors, and managers across the department, mainly the Reading & Language Arts content team and Production team to execute all OER assignments. This team member will contribute expertise, and work towards achieving common goals such as ensuring that the necessary texts are available, ready, in the proper state, and comply with copyright laws for the OER project.
 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.        Contribute problem-solving skills and analytical abilities to help address challenges and obstacles that may arise during projects, actively participating in finding effective solutions. The CTM will also collaborate with team members from various functional areas, bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise to solve complex problems and drive the OER project success.
2.        Provide support and expertise within the functional area to team members from other departments, contributing to the overall success of the cross-functional team. Work collectively towards achieving common goals and objectives set by the Deputy Chief of Curriculum Design & Assessment and the RLA content team, aligning individual tasks and deliverables accordingly.

3.        Manage production timelines for OER curriculum materials, ensuring alignment with department goals and delivery milestones across content areas and grade levels.
4.        Promote a positive team culture that values diversity, collaboration, innovation and accountability while fostering open and transparent communication within the team, sharing information, ideas, and updates to facilitate collaboration to ensure everyone is well informed.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Managing. Accomplishes the majority of work objectives through the management of direct reports. Provides day-to-day directions to staff; may become directly involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems. Responsible for assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring application of policies and procedures. Receives assignments in the form of objectives, with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides input to hiring, performance and budget.
 

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing directions on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

No budget development activity is required.

Decisions are made with greater freedom and discretion, including recommendations that are subject to approval on matters that may affect multiple departments across HISD. Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods/procedures/services and generate new ideas. May also review decisions made by other individuals on more routine matters.
 

IMPACT OF DECISIONS

Decisions have considerable impact to multiple divisions or the organization causing risks or improvements to relationships, significant efficiencies, or delays in operations, and/or significant financial gains or expenses. Errors are serious and difficult to discover, normally involve decisions not subject to detailed review and will result in excessive costs and/or significant project delays.
 

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Collaborate and solve problems - work with others to resolve problems, clarify, or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.
