POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Principal plays a critical role in driving student achievement, fostering a high-performance culture, and ensuring alignment with HISD’s strategic priorities. This position supports the Principal in leading instructional excellence, building strong relationships, and cultivating a thriving school environment that prepares students for academic and lifelong success.

Key Responsibilities:

The Assistant Principal supports the Principal in executing high-impact leadership to ensure student success and operational excellence, including:

Driving Student Achievement & Instructional Excellence

Supports the development and implementation of instructional strategies that accelerate student learning and close achievement gaps.
Assists in ensuring rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum and instruction are effectively delivered by teachers.
Implements data-driven practices to monitor and improve student progress.

Building a Culture of High Expectations

Cultivates a positive, student-centered school climate that prioritizes safety, respect, and engagement.
Leads efforts to increase student attendance, graduation rates, and academic outcomes.
Supports the Principal in discipline management, ensuring a fair and consistent student behavior framework.

Talent Development & Performance Management

Assists in the selection, mentoring, and coaching of high-quality staff.
Supports the Principal in teacher evaluation and ongoing professional development.
Promotes collaborative teacher development to strengthen instructional practices.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

Serves as a key liaison between the school, district, and community.
Builds and maintains meaningful partnerships with parents, businesses, and local organizations to support student success.
Ensures timely and transparent communication with students, staff, and families.

Operational Leadership & Compliance

Ensures the school adheres to federal, state, and district policies.
Oversees extracurricular activities, school operations, and crisis management protocols.

Supports the implementation of HISD initiatives and strategic priorities.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Administrator’s Certificate appropriate for the Principal’s position or the ability to acquire it

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Three years of exemplary teaching experience.

         Additional leadership experience on the campus or otherwise is essential.
