JOB SUMMARY

The Architect – Strategic Data Intelligence designs and manages the data infrastructure and integration architecture supporting analytics for HISD’s ERP systems. This includes Finance, HR, Procurement, and other operational domains. The Architect leads efforts to transform data from Oracle Fusion, SAP, and other sources into structured, secure, and performant models within Microsoft Fabric and Power BI. The Architect ensures the data platform is scalable, governed, and aligned with the district’s modernization and reporting priorities.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Design and maintain the architecture for enterprise data models supporting analytics and reporting.
2.    Build and manage pipelines that move data from Oracle Fusion, legacy SAP, and third-party platforms into Microsoft Fabric.
3.    Define standards for data structures, naming conventions, and metadata management.
4.    Work closely with BI developers and analysts to ensure data is clean, reliable, and fit for use.
5    Create and maintain documentation of data lineage, relationships, and transformations.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

6.    Establish data refresh schedules, failure alerts, and monitoring processes.
7.    Collaborate with data governance and security teams to ensure compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and internal controls.
8.    Support historical data access and reporting during and after ERP migration.
9.    Optimize performance of datasets and visuals in Power BI through architectural tuning.
10.    Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, or a related field required. Master’s preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 5 years in enterprise data architecture, data engineering, or database management. Experience with Power BI, Fabric, and large-scale ERP data preferred.

SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

•    Proficiency in SQL, DAX, and data modeling best practices
•    Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and Azure Data Factory
•    Experience with ERP datasets (GL, Payroll, HR, Purchasing, etc.)
•    Strong documentation, governance, and compliance skills
•    Preferred certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer, Power BI Data Analyst Associate

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides architectural leadership for data systems. May guide engineers or analysts on best practices in data preparation and modeling.

No direct authority; may provide input on tools, licenses, and cloud usage related to data operations.

Supports executive decision-making by ensuring high-quality data is available and reliable. Mistakes may affect financial, HR, and operational reporting.

Works with business leaders, analysts, and technical peers to understand needs and communicate architectural decisions

Acts as a bridge between raw data systems and end users. Helps translate data into usable, trusted tools that meet operational needs.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Primarily office-based or hybrid. May require extended hours during go-lives or major platform transitions.
