JOB SUMMARY

The Architect – Enterprise Platform and Security Solutions supports the design, deployment, and ongoing optimization of identity, access, and integration services that power Houston ISD’s enterprise platforms. This role helps manage the provisioning lifecycle, support system integrations, and uphold security standards across applications and users. The Architect works collaboratively to support day-to-day operations and long-term technical improvements in authentication, automation, and platform performance.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support identify and access management solutions including SSO, MFA, and user provisioning workflows. 
  • Develop and maintain integration scripts or middleware connecting cloud and on-prem systems. 
  • Assist with monitoring and support of user lifecycle events (joiners, movers, leavers).
  • Support audits, logging, and compliance reporting for access-related events. 
  • Troubleshoot access or system performance issues related to identity or platform services. 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

  • Coordinate with system owners to implement secure integration points. 
  • Maintain technical documentation and support standard operating procedures. 
  • Implement updates, patches, and improvements in IAM and integration tools. 
  • Escalate critical issues and support security incident response as needed. 
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field required.    

WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 4 years of experience supporting enterprise platform operations, preferably with a focus on IAM or middleware. Public sector or K–12 experience is a plus.

SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Works independently or under guidance from senior staff. May lead small projects or assist junior team members.

Performs standard architecture and support functions with moderate complexity. Escalates more complex decisions.

BUDGET AUTHORITY

None.

PROBLEM SOLVING

Troubleshoots system access, performance, or provisioning problems. Proposes secure and efficient improvements.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS

Supports system access and stability. Mistakes can affect large numbers of staff and system continuity.    

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Works closely with technical and support teams across the district. Responds to incidents and access requests with professionalism.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

Ensures users are onboarded/offboarded efficiently and securely. Supports district trust in core system functionality.    

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Office environment with some extended hours for patching or after-hours support. Remote or hybrid work may be possible based on assignment.
