JOB SUMMARY
The Analyst 2 plays a critical role in conducting data analysis, generating insights, and providing strategic recommendations to support decision-making processes within the department. This position involves maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and in preparing financial reports in accordance with GAAP.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Posts journal entries and reconciles general ledger accounts, bank statements, and other financial records ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
2. Analyze large and complex datasets using statistical methods, data modeling, and advanced analytics techniques to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
3. Ensure adherence to District policies and procedures including the HISD Financial Procedures Manual and HISD Finance Process Guide.
4. Prepare comprehensive financial reports, presentations, and visualizations that effectively communicate analytical findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business leaders, and other analysts, to understand business objectives and provide actionable insights.

6. Identify opportunities for process improvement and propose data-driven solutions to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
7. Conduct ad-hoc analysis and deep dives into specific business questions or challenges to support strategic initiatives and projects.
8. Stay up to date with emerging trends, tools, and technologies in accounting, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
9. Assist in the development and implementation of data governance policies and procedures to ensure data quality, privacy, and compliance.
10. Participate in data-related projects and initiatives, providing analytical support and contributing to project goals and objectives.
11. Collaborate with IT teams to ensure data availability, accessibility, and security.
12. Provide training and mentorship to junior colleagues, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
13. Maintain a strong understanding of industry best practices, standards, and regulations related to data analysis and privacy.
14. Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in all data analysis and reporting activities.
15. Adhere to ethical standards and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive data.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 1 year of experience in accounting, finance, or a related field.
SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
Proficiency in ERP software (e.g., SAP) and data manipulation tools (e.g.,, Excel).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, organize, and analyze complex datasets.
Experience in developing and implementing predictive models, machine learning algorithms, or other advanced analytics techniques.
Solid understanding of statistical concepts, methodologies, and data visualization principles.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex data findings to non-technical stakeholders.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Knowledge of data governance and data management best practices.

Experience in the industry or domain relevant to the district’s is desirable.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a curious mindset and a passion for uncovering insights from data.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive data with discretion.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.
BUDGET AUTHORITY
No budget development activity is required.
PROBLEM SOLVING
Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas
IMPACT OF DECISIONS
Follows rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to HISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made, would result in minor expense for correction.
COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS
Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other departments.
CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
Follows through with customer inquiries, requests and complaints. Forwards difficult and non-routine inquiries or requests to appropriate level for resolution.
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
