JOB SUMMARY
The Agriculture Systems Summer Day Camp Lead Counselor supports the daily supervision, coordination, and implementation of a six-week agriculture and food systems summer camp for middle school students. The Lead Counselor provides on-site leadership to counselors, supports instructional activities, and ensures student safety, engagement, and program fidelity.
This role assists Food & Agriculture Literacy (FAL) staff with programming logistics, field experience, service learning, and daily operations, while serving as a primary point of contact for students and counselors during camp activities.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Support daily operations and supervision of the Agriculture Systems Summer Day Camp.
2. Provide leadership and guidance to camp counselors during daily activities and transitions.
3. Assist with the implementation of agriculture, food systems, and sustainability learning activities.
4. Support student engagement in seed-to-plate projects, STEM challenges, and team competitions.
5. Assist with the coordination of field trips, service-learning activities, and guest speakers.
6. Support farm-based learning and service projects at Mykawa Farm.
7. Ensure student safety and supervision during on-campus, off-campus, and travel activities.
8. Assist with daily schedules, attendance tracking, and student accountability.
9. Support college and career readiness activities related to food and agriculture pathways.
10 Reinforce camp expectations, behavior guidelines, and positive youth development practices.
11 Communicate daily needs, issues, or incidents to FAL supervisory staff.

12 Assist with preparation, setup, and cleanup of instructional materials and activities.
13 Support culturally responsive and inclusive learning environments for all students.
14 Assist with documentation related to camp participation and activities.
15 Support overall program quality, student experience, and successful completion of camp activities.
16 Other duties as assigned.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees but does not have formal supervisory responsibility. Leading and directing is restricted to monitoring work and providing guidance on escalated issues. Most of work time is spent performing many of the same duties they are leading.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.

Follow rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to HISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made, would result in minor expense for correction.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
