JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the grounds department, including but not limited to grounds maintenance, fencing repairs, small engines maintenance, striping, site services, and tree trimming. Also responsible for coordinating and implementing procedures for the department and scheduling mowing services.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Supervises district grounds personnel through designated lead positions
2.    Correspond with principals of the changing of schedules, campus concerns and follow-up of jobs performed.
3.    Establishes grounds keeping requirements for all campuses and support facilities
4.    Human Resources functions including but not limited to, recruiting, screening, and interviewing candidates. Approve new hires, recommend terminations, manage and monitor all discipline attendance and job performance

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

5.    Provide follow-up for concerns from principals, supervisors, direct reports and CFS administration.
6.    Recommends for purchase necessary equipment and supplies and maintains an inventory of them.
7.    Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.

SAP, Microsoft Office, Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier), Hand tools (e.g., hammer, shovel, screwdriver), Power tools (e.g., radial saw, reciprocating saw, drill, pneumatic hammer), Vehicles (e.g., automobile, truck, tractor, forklift), Management Training Microsoft Office

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages (Directly). Regularly manages two or more employees in at least a single department. Includes large functional departments. Allocates resources according to priorities and serves as primary decision maker regarding hiring, performance and budget recommendations.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities. No budget development activity is required.

Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods/procedures/services and generate new ideas. May also review decisions made by other individuals on more routine matters.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Collaborate and solve problems – works with others to resolve problems, clarify or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.

Regularly assesses and diffuses complex, and escalated customer issues. Takes personal responsibility and accountability for solving systemic customer service problems. Regularly explores alternative and creative solutions to meeting the needs of the customer within HISD's policies and guidelines.
