JOB SUMMARY
Plans, lays-out, fabricates, assembles, installs and repairs sheet metal parts, equipment and products, utilizing knowledge of working characteristics of metallic and nonmetallic materials, machining and layout techniques, using hand tools, power tools, machines and equipment.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling and installing sheet metal products.
- Uses sheet metal tools and equipment proficiently and safely.
- Performs accurate cutting, forming and welding. Lays-out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material, using scribers, dividers, squares and rulers, applying knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace patterns of product or parts using templates.
- Sets-up and operates fabricating machines, such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls and routers, to cut, bend, block and form or straighten materials.
- Fabricates electrical panels, doors and brackets.

WORK EXPERIENCE
3 to 5 years
SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
Diploma and/or certificate from a Sheetmetal trade school
Hand tools (e.g., aviation shears, hammer, square); Power tools (e.g., hydraulic shear, drill press, roll former, bending brake, punch press); Vehicles (e.g., automobile, truck, forklift)
General knowledge of sheet metal layout, fabrication and installation
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work and tasks are often straightforward, routine, structured and guided by established policies and procedures. Little, if any, independent judgment is required, outside of making basic choices in the selection and application of established methods. The job receives frequent, ongoing supervision.

No budget development activity is required.
