JOB SUMMARY
Ensures the safety of students and staff through integrated pest management techniques.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspects and evaluates pest control related problems. Communicates decisions and procedures to affected personnel, ensuring that all Texas Department of Agriculture laws and regulations are followed.
- Determines treatment protocols based upon individual situations; keeps in mind current pest threat levels and student and staff exposure to pest and pesticides.
- Implements determined treatment plans, ensuring that all mandated safety procedures are followed.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED
- Communicates treatment expectations with school custodial and kitchen staff and school administration.
- Places and monitors live animal traps. Communicates with city animal control for live animal pickup.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED

1 to 3 years
SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
Hand tools (e.g., hammer, shovel, screwdriver), Power tools (e.g., radial saw, reciprocating saw, drill, pheunomatic hammer), Vehicles (e.g., automobile, truck, tractor, forklift)
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work and tasks are often straightforward, routine, structured and guided by established policies and procedures. Little, if any, independent judgment is required, outside of making basic choices in the selection and application of established methods. The job receives frequent, ongoing supervision.
BUDGET AUTHORITY
No budget development activity is required.

Decisions are made on routine matters affecting few individuals and usually within the confines of the job's own department. Specific job activities and results are typically reviewed closely. There are limited requirements for developing new ideas or changes in methods, procedures or services.

Errors are usually discovered in succeeding operations where most of the work is verified or checked and is normally confined to a single department or phase of the organizational activities resulting in brief inconvenience.

Basic communication - very little communication required such as receiving basic instructions. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and co-workers in own department.

Follows through with customer inquiries, requests and complaints. Forwards difficult and non-routine inquiries or requests to appropriate level for resolution.
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noise, chemicals, etc.
Ability to carry and/or lift up to 15 to 44 pounds.
