JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Educational Diagnosticians in Houston ISO provides leadership and oversight for special education assessment services. ensuring evaluations are conducted in alignment with federal, state. and district policies and procedures. This role supports a team of educational diagnosticians. guiding best practices in assessment. data interpretation. and collaboration with school staff and families. The director also leads professional development. monitors compliance. and works with district and campus teams to ensure students' needs are accurately identified and addressed, fostering an inclusive and effective learning environment. The Director also serves as an expert evaluator for the district when needed.
 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Provide leadership, guidance, and professional development to educational diagnosticians to ensure high-quality assessment practices. Also serves as the district's expert evaluator.
2.    Ensure timely and accurate assessments for special education eligibility in accordance with district, state, and federal policies and procedures.
3.    Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of programs, projects, and initiatives within the department.
4.    Work closely with campus administrators, teachers, and families to interpret assessment data and support appropriate educational planning.
5.    Lead initiatives to enhance assessment procedures, tools, and strategies that support equitable and effective student services.
 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

6.    Coordinate staffing assignments, manage workloads, and allocate resources to ensure efficient service delivery across campuses.
7.    Other duties as assigned.
 

EDUCATION

Master’s Degree
The Director of Educational Diagnosticians must remain current with best practices, legal updates, assessment tools. and instructional strategies to effectively support students and staff across the district.  Teacher Certified
 

WORK EXPERIENCE

 5 to 7 years
New employee should experience as a certified educational diagnostician, leadership in special education, and strong knowledge of assessment practices and compliance procedures. 
 

SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

Teacher Certified – Must be Certified Educational Diagnostician

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Senior Management. Manages a department or multiple major disciplines, often through subordinate management. Regularly manages staff in the completion of large-scale projects or a very closely related set of projects/initiatives often spanning multiple disciplines. Receives strategies and broad departmental objectives from senior leadership; establishes operational objectives and work plans; delegates assignments to subordinate management and staff. Allocates resources according to priorities and serves as the primary decision maker regarding hiring, performance, and budget

Work is non-standardized and widely varied, involving many complex and significant variables including significant time spent planning, evaluating complex solutions and issues, and negotiating outcomes. Strong analytic ability and inductive thinking are frequently required to devise new approaches to situations where previously accepted solutions have proven inadequate. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the division. Supervision received typically consists of providing periodic coaching, advice, and feedback.

Leads others in the resolution of highly sensitive and confidential issues on behalf of the department. Acts as a trusted advisor and becomes involved in the customer's decision-making process including presenting alternatives and information and applying persuasion and negotiation skills in the resolution of problems. Monitors customer service standards.
 

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
